Before you start, unlock the domain at your current registrar, get the authorisation (EPP) code, and confirm the admin contact email can receive approval messages.

Registrar lock
disabled so the transfer can proceed.
Auth code ready
valid EPP or auth code from the losing registrar.
Admin email watched
WHOIS contacts can approve the transfer link.
DNS TTL lowered
24 to 48 hours before cutover if you change nameservers.
